Please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart and my life.
Remove the have nots, the can nots and the do nots that I have in my mind.

Erase the will nots, may nots, might nots that may find a home in my heart.

Release me from the could nots, would nots and should nots that obstruct my life.

And most of all, Dear God,
I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart and my life all of the “am nots”
that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought that I am not  good enough.

A loved one, teacher, mentor or ‘the king”

As one by one the things we cherish are removed

Someone they can put on pedestal

It matters not if football or if princess

We identify with artificial models

It gives our mundane life unspoken value

To suddenly be connected to the stars

Who’s who in society or politics

Imagining this will somehow take us far

I love the spring

When the Robins hop and warble

When the flowers push their heads above the snow

When the leaves are just beginning to show their shades of green

When the earth warms, soft and spongy, beneath my bare feet

I love summer

When no one is in a hurry

When the children bring their laughter to the sun

When I can go a swimming and be the weightless one

When the butterflies and chimes drift soft and sweet

I love the fall

When breezes become nippy

When a lazy weekend morning smells of smoke

When the trees are dressed in splendor that flowers wore in spring

When the earth rests, soft and spongy, beneath my bare feet

I hate winter

When the trees and joints are frozen

When my youthful joy is smothered by the pain

When I can hardly straighten and each part of me locks up

When I mourn the loss of all that I could do back in the spring

When the days are long and dreary

When it drizzles dawn to dusk

For years I packed and repacked

My heavy, guilty load

Pushed it up each mountain

Dragged it down each coast

Wrapped it tight around me

So as not to lose one note

Reaping all that I had sown

Until I thought I’d choke

I lived in condemnation

God’s wrath was all I heard

“Thou shalt not!” rang in my ears

And peace was just a word.

There were those around me

Held me in my place

Hearts of stone and eyes of steel

Hardened on each face

Nothing of forgiveness

Nothing there of grace

I was drawn to His Presence

I heard Him call my name

I wondered what awaited

But answered just the same

Startled by His tenderness

That looked beneath it all

Overwhelmed by loving eyes

Acceptance broke my fall.

“Leave the suitcase in the path”

I heard Him sweetly say

I noticed it was empty

He had carried guilt away

Hidden neath the ocean

Where no one could retrieve

He said it was forgotten

If only I’d believe

“But someone has to pay it!”

I cried with sorrow then

“I paid each debt when I became

Your each and every sin”

“Follow Me and you will see

My grace will take you far

Holiness ~ not what you do

No, it is who you are

Not living the things they teach

Some folks are good with words

Not practicing what they preach

Disqualified by our actions

Attitudes and motives impure

God sets us aside because He knows

What the crowd doesn’t see, obscured

Gideon saved his people

God found him hiding, afraid

Discouraged by the difference he saw

In the acts of God displayed

In the days of his faithful heros

The men of the Scriptures of old

He wondered where the power went

The glory his people sold

They traded in Jehovah

For idols of Asherah

They worshipped at alters of Baal

Insted of the one true GOD

They did what was right in their own eyes

Paying the price of slaves

Living a life unbearable

Their enemies stripping all gain

Barely eeking out a living

Had it stolen, killed, destroyed

Gideon prayed for a miracle

And beheld the face of the Lord

The people cheered his bravery

Wanted to crown him king

Now anyone else chosen of God

Might think this an excellent thing

He followed in obediance

He fought against all odds

Remembering the victory

Was solely due to God

He didn’t question timing

He didn’t question plan

When God said there were too many

He eliminated thousands

He marched with noble remnant

Trusting Jehovah’s lead

The victory won, enemy on the run

He reminded them GOD was their King

He said ‘neither I nor my children

Is fit to take God’s place

They worshipped all but God

Even Gideons act of worship

Became the evil ephod

Should we stop producing

Fruit that blesses God
